We have a limited amount of extra Tunis skeins from our November box for the Beyond Merino Yarn Club. which we're now making available to members.
Our final yarn for the 2024 edition of the Beyond Merino club is a custom-spun wool that we created by collaborating with two partners: Revolution Wool Co. and Wave Fibre Mill.
We sourced a Tunis cross wool from Revolution Wool Co, but didn’t have quite enough fleeces to make up the 50lb minimum for spinning at Wave, so they offered to blend our wool with some Targhee cross fleeces that they had sourced from farm near Shelburne, Ontario.
The resulting yarn is a 3-ply DK weight that has a great bounce and a smooth texture. It works up well on 3.5mm to 4.5mm needles, and it has nice crisp stitch definition that works well for textured patterns.
This yarn requires more work to felt than fine wools like Cormo or Merino, but with a little effort it does felt quite nicely. There’s a bit more lanolin in the finished yarn than most of the other ones we’ve used this year, so you may notice more of a sheepy smell too!
Notes
"Dappled Leaves" was this month's bright colour option, "Pink Lilac" was the pastel option, and "Shadow" was the neutral option.
